My shi-tzu was taken to a vet cause he may have hurt himself jumping off an ottoman. I wasn't there but the ex took him. We share custody. It's a thing.
Also, we knew he had an ear infection, needed anal glands expressed and needed rabies shot. The Vet(Not Meadowlawn) was supposed to do a nose to tail evaluation since it was his first time.
The Ex sent me the bill and I could have spit venom with what the costs were. Just shy of $600!
For what, I asked.
My dog's summary had some missing verbage for the cost they billed us. They missed his ear infection, didn't ask about his rabies shot, said he has periodontal disease, said he has arrhythmia(irregular heartbeat), said his abdomen seemed to be sore, and said he's probably constipated, and an X-ray would find that out.
They also did blood work, which turned out fine.
I don't think all Vet Drs are shady, but this place seemed to be. They're called Hometown Vet. The location is on the south end of Myrtle Beach by Market Common. My dog came home still in pain. The Vet prescribed 3 drugs, one that was supposed to ease his pain and can't remember the other two, but the side effects were upset stomach, vomitting, diarrhea and loss of appetite...Yikes! I threw that in the garbage. Anyone would have. The Vet also pushed their dog food brand on my Ex. They said Pet Fresh was bad and so was Caesar. So, the Ex bought 6 of their overly priced cans. A quick AI chat found that what the Vet said about Pet Fresh and Caesar wasn't true at all. They lied. My dog did eat the food they sold the Ex, at $12 a can.
So, this bill that was close to $600 was pissed me off. They didn't give him a rabies shot, nothing for his ear infection and no anal glands were expressed.
My dog has been a patient at Meadowlawn for almost 10 years. We could not get an appointment when we needed it so that is why the Ex tried Hometown.
We finally got an appointment with Meadowlawn. I was there for this visit. I was making sure things were going to be said and asked that needed to be. And my dog doesn't leave my sight for anything except an X-ray. He will not go into a back room all scared to death. The Vet was ok with my demands.
The Vet who saw my dog was so wonderful. She did an exam on Jackson and found his ear infection, found where his pain was coming from(his back, NOT his abdomen), noticed his anal glands were swollen, said he doesn't have Periodontal disease at all, and his heartbeat is normal. She took the time to listen to his heartbeat for at least 3-5 minutes. It's was hard for me to be quiet. Lol.
At the end of this visit, Jackson was taken well care of. He got his rabies shot, his glands expressed, medicine for his ear and some pain meds without the side effects. After the expressing of the glands, Jackson felt so much better. It was immediate. The fact that the Hometown vet Dr missed that , pretty much concluded that particular vet Dr did not finish Vet school high on the totem pole.
The bill for everything at Meadowlawn was under $300. Obviously, I was relieved.
Bottom line, Meadowlawn is the Premier, Top Notch, Vet to go to on the South end. I would recommend them to anyone. The Vet put my mind at ease while she was explaining everything in detail about my dog, Jackson.
Sorry for the lengthy review but I had time to post. Lol.
I gave 4 stars because someone at Meadowlawn recommended Hometown. Other than that, 5 stars.
Very caring and attentive staff, they put you at ease and take excellent care of your fur baby. I have been coming here for six years with my Max, shih-poo.
I am new to the area, just relocating her 3 months ago,I don’t know anyone, and needed to board my 2 dogs.
I boarded both of my service dogs here while I went to Vegas for my birthday week trip!!
I was extremely nervous about leaving them with someone I had never met,let alone used before or Vetted with them!!
Let me say that they were very good with them, they took very good care of them and ensured that they got their supplements and Buddy got his medicine on time.
I was happy with the cost of boarding and the amount of care and attention they gave them!!
